The Opportunity

SchoemanLaw is recruiting a Senior Commercial Attorney / Team Lead for its Paarl office.
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role combines commercial legal practice, team workflow leadership and developing a client base aligned with the firm's strategy and values.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality legal advice and work product, maintain professional standards, manage matters efficiently and support a collaborative, client-focused team.
This is a senior role for an admitted attorney with
substantial post-admission commercial law experience
and experience managing attorneys.
Role Responsibilities
What you will be responsible for
Workflow and team leadership
- Manage the fee earner team's workflow and priorities.
- Ensure matters follow the firm's standard operating procedures and systems.
- Promote efficiency, continuous improvement and strong team collaboration.
Client development
- Develop an appropriate commercial client base.
- Identify and participate in valuable networking opportunities.
- Build relationships that support long-term client loyalty and referrals.
Professional contribution
- Contribute to the firm's marketing strategy through appropriate professional activities.
- These may include articles, radio interviews and educational legal videos.
- Lead by example in client service and professional conduct.
Requirements Profile
Qualifications and experience
Essential Requirements
- LLB qualification.
- Admitted attorney, registered with the Legal Practice Council.
- At least 5 years post-admission practising attorney experience in commercial law.
- At least 5 years experience managing a team of attorneys.
- Driver's licence and own transport.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Advantageous Experience
- LLM qualification.
- At least 1 year of project management experience.
- At least 1 year of management and leadership experience.
The position profile also specifies a 70% average in the final year of the LLB.
